New Breast Cancer Test Offers Improved Chances of Detection
October 6, 2016
A new breast cancer test, called Molecular Breast Imaging (MBI), is offering new hope in the early detection of breast cancer. The MBI is up to four times better at finding cancer than a mammogram alone, according to NBC News.
A patient receiving an MBI test is injected with a tracer that is attracted to cancer cells. Imaging is then used to determine the precense of the tracer.
This technology is especially effective for women with densse breasts, in which cancer cells are difficult to discern with mammograms alone.
