The introduction of technology that aids in breast cancer detection, especially in dense breasts, is of the utmost importance. Breast CT was developed to address the well documented limitations of compressional breast mammography in that regard, including the elimination of painful compression and moving the imaging acquisition from a conventional 2-dimensional image to a true isotropic 3-dimensional representation of the breast at the same radiation dose levels as mammography.
