Hi my name is Kellie Hunt, I'm 32 year old mother of a 2yr old. I was diagnosed in July of 2006 with invasive ductile carcinoma. I found a lump but everything I had read said that it was so rare for someone my age to have breast cancer, only a 5% chance. Even when I went to my doctors office he advised there was nothing to worry about and we would just do a mammogram and a sonogram just to be sure. After those results, he advised that he still thought it was nothing and that I could wait for 6 months and we could redo the test or we could just do a biopsy and know for sure if it was just a cyst. When I was told that I had breast cancer I was so shocked I was not expecting it. Then after my mastectomy, I was told in August 2006 that I had Metastatic breast cancer stage IV and that it had affected my 9th vertebrae and my right femur. I have been through 4 major surgeries since then and awaiting the approval for reconstruction in 2007. This year has been rough, but through it all I have found this whole community that has these amazing people that have been through cancer, or a family member that has had it. I have heard so many stories of survivors with such hope. These people have opened their hearts and minds to my fight, and I could not ask for more support. My life has definitely changed and the way I look at life is so much richer. Im thankful for each and every day I have to spend with my son and my husband of 6 yrs. They are coming up with new medicines each year, and who knows what they will be able to come up with for 2007! If you have breast cancer, or know some that does, please know that there is a whole community out there that is willing to talk and help you through this difficult time. American Cancer Society, Young Survival Coalition and the Y-ME organization have been wonderful resources in my time of need.
