(October 12, 2016) Columbia, MD. – The American Breast Cancer Foundation (ABCF) is collaborating with the Medical Fitness Network (MFN) and Fitness Learning Systems (FLS) to sponsor and promote the Breast Cancer Recovery and Prevention Specialist Certificate Program, an innovative course for fitness industry professionals.
A portion of the proceeds from the sale of this course will directly support ABCF programs, which provide financial assistance to underserved individuals, regardless of age or gender. ABCF’s partnership with MFN and FLS aims to help breast cancer patients and survivors make informed health decisions by providing a resource for education, a key element in the fight against cancer. Studies show a strong connection between fighting cancer and important choices in physical activity and exercise, diet and nutrition, and lifestyle.
While doctors often prescribe diet and exercise as an extension of their treatment, the patient is often left to their own devices to determine how best to fill these doctor’s orders. The patient can search online for diet plans and providers, but it can be a daunting task to find the right solution.
“Through this exciting partnership, we can provide a direct link to this solution by referring survivors to those who complete the FLS course via the MFN," says Daryl Lee Hale, Educational and Social Media Resource Director for ABCF. “This project will help us grow a resource directory for breast cancer survivors and their families to find health, wellness & fitness providers all in one place that best fit their needs.”
"This 12-hour continuing education Specialist Certificate will help prepare fitness & health professionals to work with women at risk for breast cancer, recovering from breast cancer, or who are breast cancer survivors," says FLS President June Chewning. "We are excited to include a one year MFN membership for those who complete this course so they can be part of this registry that serves the ABCF.”
“We’re thrilled to collaborate on this project with FLS and support the American Breast Cancer Foundation survivors and their families.” said MFN founder Lisa Dougherty.
About the American Breast Cancer Foundation (ABCF)
The American Breast Cancer Foundation's (ABCF) mission is to provide financial assistance for breast cancer screenings and diagnostic tests for uninsured and underserved individuals, regardless of age or gender. This is achieved, in part, by the Breast Cancer Assistance Program (BCAP), the Community Partnership Program, and the newly designed Community Advocacy Program.
The BCAP program and the Community Partnership Program are time honored and tried programs linking patients with facilities and assistance in their own areas. These programs have received letters of acclaim from throughout the country. The Community Advocacy program will be rooted in significant personal relationships with individuals, and will also assist them in gaining access to needed resources, services, and support. The strategic platform provided by these programs will serve as a link and referral system to local resources and information that will be ethnically and linguistically appropriate to the needs of the individual. http://abcf.org
